Visit Leia at Spilled Melk.

Hello friends! My friend Leia recently made a blog and she's just starting to get posts going. I'm really excited for her and I can't wait for her to post more so I can follow. Spilled Melk. is about everything crafty and delicious. She will be documenting her cooking efforts and how-to's on some of her favorite recipes, and illustrating how to create some of the coolest, most interesting DIY and craft projects. I live with her, so trust me, she definitely has an innate creativity. Check out Spilled Melk. and let me know what you guys think.

P.S. the name Spilled Melk. comes from Leia's penchant from turning i's into e's in common English language words. Pellow, vanella, melk. Oh, and also because she spills milk all over our apartment every damn day.

Muted Leopard

For a brisk winter day, I felt the need to try out my leopard jeans from F21. I loved the Current/Elliot animal print jeans, but I did't have the guts or the money to try them out, so I settled on a more muted animal print in my price range. They've really turned out to be a great alternative to blue jeans or leggings, which I always find myself coming back to every winter. The cold weather dressing rut is now gone, thank god.

Lazy Sunday

Yesterday was almost the most wasted day of my entire life (lazy wasted, not drinking wasted). I watched Gossip Girl from near-beginning of the current season to now. That's like 9 episodes. So today I have to be more proactive. A mental health day of sorts. I have this mirror in my room  next to my bed that is just leaning on the wall. Its not installed on the wall and just sits on the floor next to my bed. I've kind of grown to like it there. It's an interesting perspective to have a mirror much lower than eye level. I have this habit of waking up much later than is acceptable and still thinking that I need coffee. Like especially when I've slept fo 10 hours. This is one of those days. I've been meaning to work on this butterfly mobile below (inspired by my friend Jen's mobile) for some time, and I finally got started yesterday, so today will be about finishing it. I'll be attempting to make some bracelets today, although I've sort of run out of materials. The one below is a wee bit small. I threw this post together with iPhone pictures (and the one camera-mirror pic) in about 5 minutes - kind of proud of that.

New In: From Piperlime

This week I received two packages from Piperlime. Yes, two in one week. I feel in love with these shoes at Target last week, LOVED them because they were just like these Dolce Vitas I've seen on Sincerely Jules. I went home and looked online at the DV's, and they were on sale at Piperlime for the same price as the copies from Target. So I returned the Target version of the shoes and ordered the actual DV by Dolce Vita 'Wyatt' bootie. They will be perfect for spring break in Vail in a few months. The coat, is another gem from Piperlime. I've been wanting a cape coat for a while, but they are a little too much of an avant garde style for me to spend big on. I went online to check my order status of the shoes and found the coat! Tinley Road wool cape in 'dark moss' for $26. Uh, hell yes. A day or two laters, these babies were at my door. Great finds, great prices, and oh how great they are. Outfit post including these pieces to come.

On Fur

I've been digging on fur lately. So warm and plush, and it instantly elevates the look of any outfit. I can't tell you why but I've really been wanting to get some fur (obviously faux) earmuffs. I'm going to Vail, Colarado for spring break in a few months and I've been brainstorming cold weather accessories I'll need for the mountains, and earmuffs just seem like an obvious choice for daytime village shopping and the walks to dinner.

Shit Fashion Girls Say

SO FUNNY. Part II just came out (literally today). I think it's better than the first one. You be the judge, but this is genius. "OBSESSED!"

The Inspiration Board

We've all flipped through the editorials and seen the women of the fashion industry with their gorgeous offices and polished apartments. I have a proper obsession with all things inspiring, unique and beautiful and seeing the way these fashion insiders live is definitely intriguing. I've always noticed that the offices of fashion - of writers, editors, directors, designers - are filled with inspiration. And where do we see it? An inspiration board. We've all seen them, been amazing and provoked by them, and now it's time to make one of your own. I decided a while ago to catalog all of the things that inspire me in a folder on my computer. I have about 5 inspiration folders, depending on what I would consider inspiration... the various categories include men's style (a guilty pleasure of mine), collage photos, outfits, editorial, etc. I've got it all, and I wanted to build a solid few folders of inspiration so I could get going on a board off my own. After buying the supplies and then forgetting about it for 3 months, I got down to it and glued and printed away until I had a board worthy of the WhoWhatWear offices. Here's how I did it.

What you need:
Thick (foam) poster board (one or two)
one-two yard(s) of any color fabric (I used a natural burlap)
thumb tacks (I used gold)
a collection of magazines or photos
rubber cement or other adhesive glue
scissors

1. Flip your post board over on top of the spread out fabric. Fold the fabric over the back and trace the edge of the poster board with the thumb tacks to secure the fabric to the poster board. Flip over for a flat, fabric-covered surface to start your board.
2. Collect photos from magazine editorials, advertisements and other inspiring photos from personal collections or internet fashion sites. (Many of my photos came from blogs, tumblr, weheartit, google, and I also collected and cut out inspiring magazine photos.
3. Arrange photos in any way that appeals to you. I suggest dividing the board into small sections (quadrants?) and arranging them before gluing. Once I got the area to look the way I wanted, I would glue down that sections and start on the next one.
4. Let your creative juices flow and your imagination run wild. Arrange the photos in any way you want and make sure to make it your own.

I'll get a picture of the board up on my wall as soon as I can, but for now, imagine how much fun this project can be, and how much design inspiration you can gather from working on this for an hour or so. The best part of this board is that it becomes art when you're finished. It really brightens up the room, gives it a personal feel, and serves as an on-display collection of personal taste. There's no better inspiration than looking at a collection of pieces that you've put together on your own. I've decided that I am going to work on a second one when I have the chance, and then I am going to use them as a framing headboard above my bed.

I need a really big one next.

Lusts and Desires

Two things I'm lusting after right now: Isabel Marant Bekket sneakers and Alexander Wang's Diego bag. One is in the mail, one is just a far away dream. Can you guess which one? First of all, I love ALL things Isabel. Her classic French cool is my absolutely style aspiration. If I could dress in Marant with a downtown NY edge everyday, I would. And these sneakers are just the icing on the cake. What really does it for me is the hidden wedge heel inside. They make you three inches taller, but you can run in them! Fashion and functionality at its collaboration best. And as for Wang... die. He's officially become my favorite designer of the moment. After SS12 I was on it, but this new collection (which I took the liberty of including below) is incredible. The sheer element in the new collection is complete perfection. (Note: even the shoes are sheer... sh*t.) But what I am really interested in right now are the bags. I just ordered a clutch bag similar to the white leather one below, just because it had Wang-like qualities. I'm obsessed, and it's becoming unhealthy. My new conquest is the Diego. The Rocco was my first love, but the uniqueness of the Diego sets it apart from other bags in such a strong way. In black, it's my dream.

Frat Boy

An outfit for a casual day, I unintentionally dressed like a fraternity brother, complete with layered button-up/ sweater combo and a NF vest. Layering is my favorite type of dress, and I love not having to wear a coat. Coats cover up so much good in outfits. It's always refreshing to switch up your winter wear in favor or something lighter.
