Floral Stripes

Put this little baby together for a party in 2.5 seconds flat. Pretty proud of that. And I haven't worn this little bolero sweater in probably 5 years. I got it at some random store and I wasn't into it because it was really short and super cropped, but this totally worked.

Sparkle

First night of Welcome Week at MSU. Great night, and I loved this outfit. We went to the bar for a looong time (5-9pm then 11-2am). 2 rounds in one day. I was dead the next day. But the great part about this outfit was that I was able to repurpose an old F21 dress into a hot little skirt. And it's so much more wearable now. The dress was actually a long top which I can pull off as a dress because I'm 5'3. It wasn't the most professional DIY as I just cut the dress in half, but it totally works.

my lovely roommates, one of which is wearing the dress this past NYE

I've been repurposing a lot in the past few weeks, and hopefully I'll be able to document some of those in the coming days. I'll give you a hint though... dress to a skirt, without cutting or ruining the top of the garment. Amazing, I know.

What I Wore: Another Trip To Royal Oak

Boyfriend and I went to dinner in Royal Oak one last time before heading up to school. Anita's. Again. I decided to take a dress I've had for a while and make it colorblock. I paired a new dolman top I just got over the dress. Can't even tell can you? I thought so.

The Three

The Three: 'Things That Are Written' Edition

This time around, The Three is so very inspiring. Such smart inspiration... and I absolutely love the script of the Tiffany ad. "There are times... to give voice to your heart" Taking something simple and making it beautiful is what it's all about, whether it is a feeling, the date, or creativity.

Woodward Ave.

The Woodward Dream Cruise was this past weekend and all of the classic cars were out showing off and revving their engines. There were some amazing old cars, and some superfast new ones (see: Ford GT). The cruise is always so much fun and it's a great time to go down to the Royal Oak bars and see friends that didn't go away to college.

The other day I was up on Woodward and I went into this crazy store called Vogue Vintage. There was a very Mad Men-esque aesthetic in the store, and it was such a throwback. The giant megaphone was my favorite, and everything was old fashioned. There were such interesting items in this place, like classic 50's hair dryers, hundreds of dishes with ashtrays built into them, and a couple of boomerang tables. It's the kind of place where I imagine that the store and it's items come to life at night. It was the perfect end to the classic cars weekend.

New Jean

I went out in Royal Oak today for an appointment and lunch at Anita's Kitchen. BEST Lebanese in town. The restaurant is owned by friends of my dad and they are so nice. Really cool atmosphere and such amazing food. After lunch we went down to one of my favorite consignment shops, Regeneration, and I sold some old clothes back to the store. I got a great (somewhat roughed up) jean jacket for $9! I've been looking for one for a while and this one was perfect. So happy to finally get what I needed, and it was a beautiful day. Here's what I wore:

Food Elegance

During the summer time it's just so nice to have a light meal. Seafood is great in hot weather - its light and not filling. Dinner parties are especially fun during the summer, and at every event I always serve seafood. Shrimp is always a go-to because it's easy and fast, but tuna is definitely a favorite.

teriyaki marinated albacore tuna steaks

marinated teriyaki zucchini and steamed corn

caprese salad - all for a wonderful family dinner

Here's some photos I took at Papa Joe's Gourmet Market in Birmingham. Such amazing displays and store design. If I ever had any type of store I would want the displays and the lighting to look like this.

Day On the Lake

What I wore for a day on the lake at a family reunion. It got cloudy a lot faster than I anticipated, but it was still a really nice day. Lots of family coming through the house all day, and it was great to see everyone for the day.
